HOCK:Hockeyroos welcome back star trio

They were humbled by the USA on the Sunshine Coast in the past week, losing the series 2-1 with an inexperienced squad.
Coach Adam Commens had used the matches as a chance to gauge the potential of fringe players, but has recalled 10 members of his senior playing group, picking a full-strength squad for the upcoming tournament against the USA, India and New Zealand.
Among them will be captain Madonna Blyth, midfielder Casey Eastham and defender Kobie McGurk, with Commens confident the series loss to the USA is no indicator of how Australia will fare at the London Games.
“These games will give us a better indication of where we are at on the road to London and we are hopeful we can win both tournaments,” Commens said.
“While this is certainly another opportunity for these players, numerous athletes back home are not too far off and have put their best foot forward but this is closer to our final line-up.”
It won’t take Australia long to work out how much of a difference the senior players make, with the USA their first opponents when the series starts in Auckland on Thursday.
