SYDNEY, Aug 16 AAP – I’m Cool wasn’t considered sound enough to race in Hong Kong but will be out to continue an unbeaten start to his career in Brisbane on Saturday.
The lightly-raced four-year-old will make his third race appearance in the Mount Franklin Lightly Sparkling Handicap (1200m) at Doomben after an easy midweek win and a Saturday class victory at the end of last season.
“I think he’ll have no worries going through his grades and with natural improvement he might even be a carnival horse next year,” trainer Desleigh Forster said.
“He’s a Magic Millions horse so he’ll probably end up in a race over the carnival this summer.”
I’m Cool had been the subject of several offers from Hong Kong but had failed the vet test a couple of times, Forster said.
Forster is happy to still have him in the stable and said Saturday’s event would likely be his last of this campaign.
“Hopefully he can get another win on Saturday and then we can give him a little break and get him ready for the Magic Millions carnival,” the trainer said.
After winning by seven lengths on debut at Eagle Farm last month in maiden company, I’m Cool stepped out at Doomben on July 28 and scored by a long neck over Gypsy Pearl in a 1200m 3YO Open Handicap.
“He’s gone up a fair bit in weight but we’ll be claiming again (with apprentice Kirk Matheson) so he still gets in OK,” Forster said.
“He hasn’t gone backwards, if anything he’s gone on more and improved within himself since his last start.”
Forster elected to scratch Shafeeq from a race last week after he drew wide and he’ll line up over 1110m in the Liquor Legends Plate.
“He ran third last start but did plenty of work and then pulled a bit hard,” Forster said.
“Hopefully he can switch off a bit more this time.”
