It looks like Australians may not be getting their hands on the new Apple iPhone 5 before anyone else, after punters with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au emphatically backed it being launched in another country.

Opened at $1.10, the price for Australia being the first country to have the iPhone 5 has drifted out to $1.40, with the iPhone 5 being launched in ‘any other country’ attracting 94 percent of money wagered on the market, seeing it firm from $6.00 into $2.75.

Punters also think Apple fans will have to wait a while longer for it to be launched, with October being backed from $2.80 into $1.65 to be the launch month. August, the early favourite, has eased from $2.75 out to $3.00.

“Punters think Australians will have to sit back and watch Apple fans from around the world get their hands on the new iPhone 5 before they can,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
