Tomic keen to focus on tennis
GEELONG, Vic, Feb 7 AAP – Rising tennis star Bernard Tomic is disappointed to have been caught up in another controversy involving his high-powered sports car.
The 19-year-old is due in court on February 14 to answer two driving charges laid on Australia Day.
He was later involved in a stand-off with police at his Gold Coast home.
Speaking on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming Davis Cup tie against China, Tomic said it was a relief to once again be able to focus on tennis.
“It’s a bit disappointing, but what can you do?” said Tomic, whose world ranking stands at 36 after his exciting run to the last 16 at Melbourne Park, which was eventually ended by Roger Federer.
“That’s life and that’s what you get thrown at you.
“It’s all gone now – I’m playing tennis and sooner or later I’ll be out of the country.
“It happened for a reason, it happened and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
He has since decided to sell the bright orange V8 BMW M3 at auction.
Tomic has pulled out of the SAP Open in San Jose beginning on February 13, a day before his court case.
“I pulled out for my reasons,” he said.
“It’s too late, it’s too hard to travel after Sunday to get to the tournament.”
Tomic will now begin his 2012 overseas campaign at the Memphis International from February 20.
